Among the first of Seiko’s releases in the LCD age was the 0532-5009.
While their very first LCDs experimented with front-mounted buttons, with the 0532 Seiko returned to the analog controller by mounting a crown and stem on the right-hand side, just like so many of their previous models.
This was a controller with a difference though. In ‘normal’ position, the wearer could move it clockwise or anti-clockwise to view the date and month. When pulled out, the controller helped the wearer set all the functions – anti-clockwise to select and clockwise to set. Then when pushed right in, the controller triggered the backlight function so the wearer could see the time in the dark.
Not too bad for a 1977 timepiece.
I like the pie it has above the time which displays the seconds – one piece of pie for each 10 seconds elapsed (trivial pursuits players should buy one just to subtly display their passion). In the photo at right, the time is about to change to 4.00.
Simple, functional and great lines, plus a nice dark LCD with large numbers.
Hello. I was wondering if you have an unit of this watch for sale? My father has one of it, bought by my mother in 1977, and it doesn’t seem to work properly anymore.
Unfortunately this one has been sold. They do appear on eBay reasonably often though so I would advise checking there 🙂
